Tips for Handling Fire And SmokeDamage

During a crisis like a fire at your home or business, most people have no idea what to do. It’s uncharted territory. Here are some tips for property owners when they are facing the aftermath of a fire, large or small, at their property.

Safety First

Your local fire marshall will let you know when it is safe to re-enter the property. Wait until they tell you the structure is safe.

Hands Off

Do not handle fire-damaged or smoke-damaged materials with your bare hands. The residue may contain biohazard contaminants, and the natural oils from your hands may actually worsen the damage caused by soot.

Secondary Expenses

Your homeowner’s insurance policy will cover secondary expenses like hotel rooms if you don’t have a functioning kitchen or bathroom in your home due to a fire. Keep your receipts!

Important Items to Salvage if Possible

Important Items to Salvage if Possible: Insurance/tax documents, jewelry, precious heirlooms, etc. Other items can be packed out by your restoration team for storage off-site during the cleaning and reconstruction process.

Be Prepared for Water Damage

The water from fire hoses will have flooded certain areas of your home, leaving behind a soggy mess. That will need to be mitigated along with the fire damage itself.

Ask Before You Launder

Standard laundry detergents will not remove the lingering odors caused by smoke or soot. Ask your restoration company about how your textiles can be laundered and restored.

My home flooded and upon calling Innovative they sent a tech out immediately! My home had an inch of water and within the hour a crew was there cleaning and after a few hours the standing water was completely removed. Its now been a few days and after each day they make sure my house is spotless before they leave. I have been very pleased with the crew working and the office communicating with me and with my insurance. Hopefully my house doesn't flood again, but Innovative will be my first (and only) call if anything happens!

Jamie and Josh get a big thumbs up from this momma. They were very curious of kids sleeping, friendly, professional, cleaned up well and did a great job of course patching my ceiling. I needed this right before Christmas! God's blessings you gentlemen!

We had a bathtub replaced with a walk-in shower in a small bathroom. We had a couple of issues come up and they worked with us until we were completely satisfied with the results. There was a couple items that I had ordered but ending up not liking and they were willing to replace. What I also liked, they always answered their phone and called back if I left a message. Keenan and crew.....would I want to do business with them again.....yes.
